March Community Update

Dear Friends of Room In The Inn,

Happy Easter! It is about three weeks before the shelter closes for the season. We continue to scramble to find affordable housing for our guests. This year seems tougher than past years with more demands on applications, higher costs, and fewer locations available. Earlier this year we received a grant from the Outer Banks Community Foundation to help with deposits/rents for our guests. That grant has opened doors for us, making it possible for those who can pay monthly rent, but can never save enough to get into a place of their own. To date we have helped 4 guests find housing. Ideally, we wish we could financially help all our guests more and continue praying to become a year around shelter, be able to offer transitional housing, and space for families and children.

For the last 16 years we have been supplying food, shelter, and clothing for those in need on the OBX. By the numbers for the months of November, December, January, February, and March we have provided 1896 room nights, 5688 meals, and the average age is 50. This is a 25% increase over March 2025. We need your support more than ever!

So many churches across the Outer Banks have made our mission possible. A special thank you to Holy Redeemer by the Sea, Kitty Hawk Baptist, OBX Presbyterian, Nags Head Church, and St. Andrews by the Sea for blessing those in need and OBX RITI this last month with food and supplies. St. Andrews offered our guests a special meal out; it was a treat for all. There is no way we could do this without the churches on the OBX.
