Let's Make A Change
Here are some ways you can donate:
Joseph’s story with RITI began in December 2018 when we received a request from his probation
officer to consider allowing his entry to the program. He was just released from prison the day
before, having served a 6-month sentence for a fraud/financial theft-related conviction. He had
nowhere to go. He had a history of these types of crimes, but no history of violence or other
criminal history. He had no infractions while incarcerated and was not on the sex offender
registry, so we determined it was appropriate to accept him into the program.
While with us, he attended AA meetings and worked diligently on recovery issues. He always
helped clean up around the Center where RITI was housing guests. He had three different
interviews with an Oxford House in Raleigh before he was accepted in late January. RITI
provided a ride to the bus station in Norfolk, purchased his ticket to Raleigh, and provided his
initial payment to Oxford House so he could transition to his new home. At the time, Joseph told
us, “Thank you again for all you’ve done for me. I appreciate it very much.”
In November 2019, we received this update from Joseph:
“I’m doing great at KFC. My health is great. I am still doing great at the Oxford House; they made
me secretary and I am now coming up on my one-year clean chip. I love you for helping me with
life.”
We hear from Joseph occasionally with updates. He’s very thoughtful that way and often sends
greetings on holidays. He is still living in the Oxford House and works six to seven days a week at
KFC cooking. He loves his job. Prior to COVID, he also worked at a bowling alley and plans to
return when they re-open. He reports his fellow residents at the Oxford House love it when he
cooks and he shares with all. He has been at the Oxford House and his job at KFC for over a year
now.
Joseph recently wrote:
“I couldn’t have done any of this without your love and support and help given to me. I truly
appreciate everything your program has helped me accomplish. I will treasure it always and share
with others.”
Thank you to all of our staff, volunteers, churches, and donors for being part of Joseph's story!
